How leaves could monitor pollution  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 04:58

PORTLAND, Ore. — Foliage on trees lining traffic routes could serve as low-tech pollution sensors, a new analysis suggests.Microsoft Office is so great!

The exhaust of many vehicles, particularly those that burn diesel, includes copious quantities of microscopic particles of many sizes. Although particles larger than 10 micrometers in diameter are efficiently filtered by the upper respiratory system, those smaller than 2.5 micrometers across can reach areas deep within the human lung to trigger disease and inflammation, says Bernard Housen, Windows 7 is my love!

a geophysicist at Western Washington University in Bellingham.Office 2010 –save your time and save your money.

When Housen and university colleague Luigi Jovane analyzed leaves collected at several sites along streets in Bellingham, they found that the leaves along bus routes were as much as 10 times more magnetic than leaves collected on quieter residential streets. Office Professional 2007 is many people’s favorite.

That boost in magnetism came from iron oxide particles in emissions that were trapped on the microscopically rough surface of the leaves, Housen reported October 18 at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. The invention of Microsoft Office 2010 is a big change of the world.

Iron oxide particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers across are typically magnetic, while those larger than 10 micrometers aren’t. Rain washes away no more than 30 percent of all the particles stuck on a leaf, and even ultrasonic vibrations can’t fully cleanse the surface. Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

These characteristics make tree leaves a good candidate for pollution monitoring, Housen says. Office 2007 download is helpful!

Other pluses: Leaves are cheap, and they provide information about the air near ground level where people are, not high above the street where most air quality monitoring equipment is installed.Office 2007 makes life great!

Scientists still must figure out how the number of iron oxide particles trapped by leaves relates to the total number of particles of different chemical classes in the air, says Housen. Choose Office 2007 Professional is the most lucky thing in the world.

Because many air quality standards are based on exposures for short periods of time, such as eight-hour or 24-hour intervals,Microsoft company invent the Office 2007 home for many people.

researchers must also figure out how to estimate short-term air quality from leaves, which accumulate particles throughout their growth.Microsoft word is so good!

Ancient giant beavers did not chow on trees  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 04:58

PORTLAND, Ore. — Behemoth beavers that lived in North America during the last ice age ate little if any material from trees, a new analysis suggests.Office 2007 key is very convenient!

The extinct giant beaver, Castoroides ohioensis, was just one species of large animals, or megafauna, stalking the North American landscape near the end of the last ice age. Fossils indicate that the creature was about twice the size of its modern-day cousin and therefore weighed between 60 and 100 kilograms, says Catherine Yansa, a paleoecologist at Michigan State University in East Lansing. Office 2007 download is on sale now!

Yansa and University of Wisconsin–Whitewater colleague Peter Jacobs recently analyzed material drilled from the jawbone of a giant beaver that had been unearthed at a farm in southeastern Many people use Microsoft Office 2007 to help their work and life.

Wisconsin. Carbon dating showed that the creature lived around 14,500 years ago, she reported October 19 at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America.Microsoft Office is my best friend.

Pollen and plant fossils from sediments surrounding the jawbone suggest that the environment at the site then was cold and marshy with few trees.Office 2007 Professional can give people so much convenience.

The jaws and teeth of the extinct giant beavers are somewhat different from those of today’s beavers, so some scientists had proposed that their diets differed too. Buy Office 2007 you can get much convenience.

Modern beavers eat mainly tree bark and the soft tissue beneath it, called cambium.Office 2007 home can make life more better and easier.

When Yansa and Jacobs analyzed the composition of one of the ancient beaver’s teeth, they found a shocker: The ratio of carbon-13 and carbon-12 isotopes fell well outside the range expected for a creature eating material from land-based plants such as trees. Office 2010 is powerful!

But the ratio did fall in a range that suggests the creature had been consuming large amounts of aquatic plants such as pond weeds. MS Office 2007 is the best invention in the world.

“Ecologically, the giant beavers were like little hippos,” Yansa suggests.Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

Fossils from younger sediments at the sites reveal that climate in the region became warmer and drier after the ice age lifted, says Yansa. As a result, forests crowded out many of the region’s wetlands, providing prime habitat for modern beavers.Windows 7 and Windows 7 Professional make life wonderful!

Quantum computers could tackle enormous linear equations  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 04:58

A new algorithm may give quantum computers a new, practical job: quickly solving monster linear equations. Such problems are at the heart of complex processes such as image and video processing, genetic analyses and even Internet traffic control. The new work, published October 7 in Physical Review Letters, may dramatically expand the range of potential uses for quantum computers.Office 2010 is powerful!

The new quantum algorithm is “head-smackingly good,” says computer scientist Daniel Spielman of Yale University. “It is both very powerful, and very natural. I read the abstract and said, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’” Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

In the new study, Aram Harrow of the University of Bristol in England along with Avinatan Hassidim and Seth Lloyd, both of MIT, propose that large datasets of linear equations could be encoded in quantum forms, such as the spins of nuclei, individual atoms or photons. Such a system would allow quantum computers to handily solve problems made up of billions or even trillions of variables (such as the x’s, y’s and z’s that plague algebra students). Microsoft word is so great!

“Solving these gigantic equations is a really huge problem,” Lloyd says. “Even though there are good algorithms for doing it, it still takes a very long time.”Office 2007 makes life great!

A trillion-variable problem would take a classical computer at least a hundred trillion steps to solve, Lloyd says. But with the newly proposed algorithm, a quantum computer could solve the problem in just a few hundred steps, the researchers calculate. Many people like Microsoft Office.

Strange quantum mechanical principles that operate on very small scales give quantum computers their immense number-crunching power. One of the strangest physical properties, Office 2007 Professional is very good!

called superposition, allows a single quantum bit of information to represent both a 0 and 1 at the same time, while a classical bit can only represent either a 0 or a 1.Office 2007 home and student is inexpensive and helpful.

Performing a mathematical operation on a single quantum bit, or qubit, is like doing many operations simultaneously, says Lloyd. “You don’t have to read all the data individually — you can read aspects of them all at once,” he says. Microsoft Office 2007 can give you more convenient life.

Lloyd and his colleagues plan to test the algorithm in the lab by having a quantum computer solve a set of linear equations with four variables. After that, Lloyd says he plans to look around for “more fun problems to solve.”Office 2007 key is available here.

Spielman says that this newly proposed algorithm is exciting because it hints that quantum computers may have many more hidden talents. “It’s given me a lot of hope for quantum

Images show puny plume from moon crash  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 04:57

The Centaur rocket that was deliberately crashed into one of the moon’s southern craters October 9 did in fact kick up a plume, even though the plume was not initially as large as hoped.Office 2010 download is available now!

The relatively low velocity of the Centaur rocket generated a plume that was difficult to spot — in fact impossible to see by many ground-based telescopes — and smaller than had been predicted, suggests Randy Gladstone of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio.By using Office 2010 Professional, you can save your money and time.

Moments after the impact, as the rocket’s mother spacecraft LCROSS got closer and closer to the crash site of its empty Centaur rocket, which had plunged into a crater called Cabeus, the raw images taken by LCROSS showed nothing but darkness. Many people like buy Office 2010 Home.

But enhanced composite images released October 16 do show a faint plume that was not apparent in the raw images.Office Professional 2010 is great!

The enhanced images show the heat flash from the impact, the plume and the creation of a new crater inside Cabeus before LCROSS plunged to its own death 4 minutes after the Centaur, said Anthony Colaprete, LCROSS principal investigator and project scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif.Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

The new LCROSS images indicate that the crater forged by the Centaur impact is 28 meters wide. Researchers are still analyzing data taken by the craft’s visible-light and ultraviolet spectrometer to identify the plume’s composition.Office 2010 is powerful!

In the meantime, far-ultraviolet spectra taken by another craft, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, Office 2007 key is available here.

as it flew over the impact site shows no obvious signs of water. Instead, the spectra show signs of what may be iron and mercury, says Gladstone, a mission scientist.Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

Scientists are still far from being able to see people’s innermost thoughts, Weidemann says. Microsoft Office is so great!

“When people talk about mind reading, there’s a tendency to think of 1984 and all the negative aspects of it,” he says. “The goal here is to understand cognitive processes.” Office 2010 key is for you now!

A better understanding of how the brain encodes information may be useful for building machines that can be controlled directly from people’s brains. Such devices may ultimately help people who are unable to communicate, such as people who have tetraplegia.Office 2007 is so powerful.

Sperm whales as a carbon sink 1  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 04:57

Skimpy levels of iron in the Southern Ocean limit growth of the floating meadows of plankton there, Lavery says. This limitation has inspired human experiments in adding iron to trigger a big plankton bloom. A burst of iron-fed organisms would draw in carbon dioxide and then trap some of it as a portion of the bloom dies and sinks into deep cold storage.Microsoft Office is so great!

Using numbers from studies of feeding and nutrition, Lavery and her colleagues calculate that each whale brings up about 10 grams of iron a day from the depths and then defecates it at the surface. The beauty of this sperm whale output is that it takes the form of drifting liquid plumes that can feed life in the upper ocean, Lavery says. She notes that experiments with iron have struggled with iron fertilizers that clump and sink before upper-water plankton can eat all of the goodies. Yet, she says, those experiments document measurable carbon trapping with even less iron fertilizer than sperm whales contribute.Office 2010 –save your time and save your money.

Lavery points out that her calculations can show sperm whales as either a net carbon sink or as carbon-neutral depending on which numbers go into the model. Office Professional 2007 is many people’s favorite.

Finding the exact values will take more research, she says, but she wants to call attention to an overlooked mechanism. The invention of Microsoft Office 2010 is a big change of the world.

Asked if he’s ready to believe sperm whales could be carbon neutral, Ari Friedlaender of the Duke University Marine Lab in Beaufort, N.C. says, “Of course!” Office 2007 makes life great!

He adds that is he is now thinking about the flip side of whales and climate change: what impact climate change will have on them. Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

To see how well the patients could control these single neurons, researchers set up what they call the “fade” experiment, which is like a competition between two different neurons. Microsoft word is so good!

One version of the experiment involved a neuron that responded to Goonies’ star Josh Brolin and another neuron that responded to Marilyn Monroe.Microsoft company invent the Office 2007 home for many people.

Initially, the person was shown a hybrid image of these two stars overlaid on each other. When the person was told to think of Josh Brolin,Choose Office 2007 Professional is the most lucky thing in the world.

the electrodes would record that neuron’s activity and send the data to the computer, causing the Monroe image to fade and the Brolin image to get brighter. Windows 7 is my love!

The experiment was finished when the picture was completely Brolin or Monroe, or 10 seconds had elapsed. Ten patients underwent this test and successfully directed the pictures between 60 and 90 percent of the time, the researchers found. As the testing went on, the patients became better at controlling the neurons.Office 2007 download is helpful!
